Group Exercise Instructor – Conditioning

About the role

The Group Exercise Instructor reports to the Health and Wellness Director and works with other wellness staff to lead safe, enjoyable conditioning classes for members of all skill levels. The role focuses on building community, adapting classes to diverse needs, and promoting healthy habits.

Key responsibilities

• Lead energizing, fun, and safe group conditioning classes in line with YMCA standards.
• Answer participant questions, track attendance in MotionVibe, and maintain accurate class records.
• Adjust class delivery to accommodate participants’ abilities, health conditions, and cultural backgrounds.
• Celebrate member achievements and support goal attainment.
• Follow YMCA policies, respond to emergencies, and resolve member issues professionally.

Required profile

• At least one year of experience leading group exercise classes.
• Current NCCA‑accredited group exercise certification (e.g., ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Ability to work with diverse populations, including youth, seniors, and special needs groups.

Required skills

• Certification in specific formats when teaching (e.g., Yoga, Spin, Les Mills Body Pump, Body Combat).
• Knowledge of wellness trends through YUSA courses and external training.
