Group Exercise Instructor – Body Pump

About the role

The Group Exercise Instructor leads Body Pump and other group fitness classes at the Waltham YMCA, creating a safe, enjoyable environment for participants of all skill levels. Reporting to the Health and Wellness Director, you will help members develop healthy habits through engaging, inclusive instruction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead energizing, fun, and safe group exercise classes, adapting movements to meet diverse health, ability, and cultural needs.
• Maintain accurate attendance records using MotionVibe software and follow YMCA policies, including emergency response.
• Answer participant questions, celebrate achievements, and build community among members.
• Stay current on wellness trends through YUSA courses and external training.

Required profile

• At least one year of experience leading group exercise classes.
• Current NCCA‑accredited Group Exercise certification (e.g., ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Ability to work with adults, youth, seniors, and special populations in an inclusive manner.

Required skills

• Certification in Les Mills Body Pump (or similar format).
• Proficiency with MotionVibe class management software.
• Knowledge of health and wellness programming and basic marketing for special events.
