General Mechanic – Full Time at St. Martin Hospital

About the role

The General Mechanic will respond to departmental maintenance needs at St. Martin Hospital, performing repairs, replacements, and preventive maintenance on a variety of electro‑mechanical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing items such as unclogging lines, replacing bulbs, fixing faucets, and touch‑up painting.
• Maintain specialty systems including nurse call, fire alarm, medical gas, television, and ceiling systems.
• Complete scheduled preventive‑maintenance inspections and document work performed.
• Provide on‑call emergency support and assist other departments with daily maintenance tasks.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or company school preferred.
• Minimum 2 years experience in commercial, industrial or hospital maintenance, or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program.
• Valid driver’s license for the state of residence.
• Ability to work independently, handle physical and mental stress, and operate in indoor, outdoor, and confined spaces.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC‑R, and carpentry trades.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
