Financial Clearance & Applications Specialist

About the role

The Financial Clearance & Applications Specialist gathers financial information, informs patients about payment alternatives, and assists indigent patients in obtaining financial assistance. The role works closely with multiple departments to process applications, post payments, and generate productivity reports.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process Financial Assistance Program (FAP) requests, approving, denying, or pending applications with appropriate documentation.
• Maintain accurate patient account records, including supporting details for financial assistance and responsibility.
• Screen patients for Medical Assistance prior to FAP approval and determine patient responsibility before, during, or after services.
• Generate estimates, reconcile accounts, and produce weekly and monthly productivity reports.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with at least 3 years of experience in a customer‑oriented, patient registration, or insurance‑related environment.
• Ability to interview callers, capture accurate details, and document financial needs.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills for handling technical data.
• Knowledge of federal guidelines from the Department of Health and Human Services related to financial assistance eligibility.
