FBI Special Agent – Legal Background

About the role

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is seeking candidates with a law or legal background to join its Special Agent workforce. This position offers intensive training, access to advanced investigative technology, and the opportunity to protect the nation from cyber threats, terrorism, fraud, and other federal crimes.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct investigations of potential violations of federal laws, cybersecurity incidents, and public‑safety threats.
• Exercise judgment, resourcefulness, and versatility to meet investigative demands.
• Develop and maintain liaison relationships with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international law‑enforcement agencies.
• Maintain a level of physical fitness required for law‑enforcement duties.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Top Secret SCI clearance.
• Willingness to travel as required.
• Meet the FBI’s employment eligibility requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree or J.D. (preferably in law, legal studies, or a related field) from a U.S. accredited institution.
