Operations Manager – Public Safety Department

About the role

The Operations Manager leads day‑to‑day shift operations for the Northeastern University Oakland Department of Public Safety. This essential, second/third‑shift position oversees officers, sergeants, administrative staff, communications and contracted personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure adequate shift coverage, schedule staff and evaluate performance.
• Supervise public‑safety activities, document incidents and enforce departmental policies.
• Perform officer duties as needed, including patrolling, investigations, report writing and liaison with local law enforcement.
• Monitor off‑campus shuttle schedule, handle contractor issues and address community complaints.
• Promote safety programs, develop relationships with campus stakeholders and assist in budget preparation.
• Assess security needs for campus events, recommend protocols and provide on‑site supervision.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED plus at least 3 years of leadership in police, security or public‑safety functions.
• Proven ability to lead multiple personnel on a multi‑use campus comparable to Northeastern Oakland.
• Flexibility to work all shifts, weekends and extra hours; valid U.S. driver’s license.
• CPR and First Aid certification within six months of hire; pass background, drug and psychological checks.
• Strong attendance, punctuality and ability to communicate clearly in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Experience creating and delivering PowerPoint presentations.
• Familiarity with video‑conferencing platforms.
