Head Lifeguard

About the role

The Head Lifeguard leads the aquatic team at the Trefethen Aquatic Center, ensuring safe and compliant operations. This shift‑leader position combines lifeguarding, swim instruction, and supervisory duties.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Aquatic Program Manager in supervising staff and managing programs.
• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and enforce safety rules.
• Respond immediately to emergencies following center policies.
• Document incidents, equipment issues, and supply needs for management.
• Perform opening/closing procedures, housekeeping, and chemical monitoring.
• Lead in‑service trainings, staff meetings, and certification classes.
• Ensure regular attendance and arrange shift coverage when needed.

Required profile

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Current Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED certifications.
• Preferred or provided Oxygen Administration certification.
• Availability for regular weekend shifts.

Required skills

• Ability to evaluate and record American Red Cross lifeguard skills of staff.
• Capability to organize and teach certification classes.
