Environmental Services Assistant – 1st, 2nd & 3rd Shift

About the role

The Environmental Services (EVS) Department at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital seeks dedicated assistants to maintain clean, safe environments for patients, visitors, and staff across all shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Clean patient rooms, utility rooms, conference rooms, offices, corridors, stairways, locker rooms and restrooms.
• Replenish supplies, collect trash and needles, and dispose of waste appropriately.
• Dust ceilings, vents, TVs, light fixtures, doors, walls and flat surfaces; wash or spot‑clean walls, cabinets, elevators, counters, desks and windows.
• Clean floors, carpets, floods and body fluids; use and maintain vacuums, buffers, cleaning carts, buckets, wringers and mops.
• Disinfect beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, IV poles and other patient‑room items; strip and make beds.
• Transport and move furniture and equipment; report malfunctioning equipment, unsafe conditions and broken items.

Required profile

• Interest in housekeeping work demonstrated by prior experience or willingness to learn.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and use equipment safely.
• Insurable under the hospital plan to be permitted to drive a company vehicle.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred; hospital, cleaning or factory experience is a plus.
• Physical ability to lift, move and transport items up to 100 lb and work extended periods standing or mobile.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, cleaning carts, buckets, wringers and mops.
• Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to standard precautions.
