Director of Outreach & Programming

About the role

The Director of Outreach & Programming reports to the Assistant Vice President for Community Relations and leads the Office of City & Community Engagement in developing, coordinating, and evaluating community programs and special projects at Northeastern University.

Key responsibilities

• Generate and facilitate partnerships and programs that respond to the needs of residents, businesses, and community organizations around the Boston campus.
• Refine or establish systems for tracking, collecting, and sharing outcomes and knowledge from programs and partnerships.
• Oversee program creation and development, focusing on innovative pathways for internal and external collaboration.
• Attend relevant events and engagement activities to deepen community connections.
• Assist in developing an external identity and outreach strategy for community spaces such as Northeastern Crossing.
• Support CCE staff in planning and implementing new and existing programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in community/civic engagement, program management, or strategic planning for higher education or nonprofit organizations.
• Strong ability to take creative initiative, work in a fast‑paced environment, and resolve conflicts professionally.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of Boston neighborhoods, especially Roxbury, Mission Hill, Fenway, and the South End.
• Ability to handle confidential information sensitively and manage budgets.
