Director of Global Media Relations

About the role

Northeastern University seeks a Director of Global Media Relations to lead its communications team in shaping and executing press strategies across domestic and international markets. Reporting to the Vice President for Communications, this senior leader will drive earned media coverage and manage crisis communications for the university.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement global media engagement strategies that secure top‑tier earned placements.
• Lead a team of media relations professionals to manage proactive and reactive media opportunities worldwide.
• Collaborate with senior university leaders and external affairs partners to align messaging with brand priorities.
• Utilize AI‑powered media monitoring and analytics tools to identify trends and story opportunities.

Required profile

• 6–8 years of experience working with press across top‑tier publications, including international outlets.
• Proven ability to manage complex stories from idea to high‑profile placement.
• Experience overseeing people in a fast‑paced, goal‑oriented environment.
• Demonstrated calm and focus during crisis situations.

Required skills

• Strong command of facts, data, and newsworthiness assessment.
• Familiarity with AI‑driven media monitoring, analytics, and content generation tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
