Director, AI Security

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a senior leader to establish and grow its AI Security function. This newly created Director role will shape the security strategy for AI agents and AI‑powered tools across the organization, ensuring they are designed, deployed, and governed securely.

Key responsibilities

• Define, own, and continuously mature the IRC’s AI security strategy and program roadmap.
• Establish an organization‑wide AI agent registry that tracks purpose, permissions, data access, and accountable owners.
• Develop and publish secure‑by‑default standards, frameworks, and reference architectures for internal AI development.
• Report AI security risk posture, program progress, and emerging threats to the CISO and senior leadership.
• Coordinate GIS security reviews and ensure AI platforms receive appropriate security assessment before production deployment.
• Partner with AI Governance, Privacy, Legal, and Technology teams to support AI intake, assessment, and stage‑gating processes.
• Build and lead a dedicated AI security team, manage the function’s budget, and collaborate with Security Operations, Identity & Access Management, and GRC teams.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in security engineering, risk management, or emerging technology domains.
• Proven ability to define and execute security strategies for AI systems.
• Experience advising C‑level security leaders and influencing cross‑functional teams.
• Track record of building and managing high‑performing security teams.
