Diagnostic Laboratory Technician I

About the role

The Diagnostic Laboratory Technician I supports the Veterinary Medicine Small Animal Medicine & Surgery department by performing routine diagnostic assays, handling data entry, and providing customer service for the gastrointestinal (GI) laboratory. The role also assists with research projects focused on small‑animal gastrointestinal function and disease.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine diagnostics using radioimmunoassay (RIA), enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and automated instrumentation to evaluate GI function in veterinary patients.
• Prepare buffers and reagents required for diagnostic testing.
• Enter patient data and verify diagnostic results in the GI Lab database and spreadsheets.
• Maintain records of supplies and reagents needed for testing.
• Assist GI Lab administrators with phone inquiries and client communication.
• Help train student employees working in the laboratory.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least one year of experience in scientific research, clinical, operational, or experimental work.
• Ability to operate routine laboratory equipment and follow standard operating procedures.
• Essential employee status; may be required to work during holidays or university closures.
