Data Scientist - PhD Intern

About the role

Roblox is seeking a PhD‑level Data Scientist intern to join its Data Science & Analytics organization. You will work on advanced analytics, causal inference, experiment design, and machine learning solutions that directly impact product innovation and user experience.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to develop advanced analytics, causal inference, and ML solutions.
• Conduct in‑depth research to solve complex data challenges and support product experiments such as friend recommendations and dynamic resource allocation.
• Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Pursuing or holding a PhD in a quantitative field (Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, Economics, Computational Social Science).
• At least 1 year of experience with causal inference, machine learning, or experiment design through research or prior internships.
• Passion for applying scientific rigor to consumer product development.

Required skills

• Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
• Experience with big‑data tools and languages like Hive, Spark, or Airflow.
• Knowledge of machine‑learning modeling and production‑grade solution development.
