Applied Scientist - PhD Intern

About the role

Roblox is seeking a PhD intern to join its Applied Scientist team, working on cutting‑edge AI, machine learning, and 3D technologies at massive scale. You will own a high‑impact project from ideation through production and potentially continue collaboration beyond the internship.

Key responsibilities

• Prototype, experiment with, and deploy advanced AI, ML, and 3D technologies to solve real‑world challenges at scale.
• Translate cutting‑edge research into production‑ready features alongside cross‑functional engineering and product teams.
• Develop, deliver, and optimize solutions that measurably enhance user experience, safety, and creativity on the platform.

Required profile

• Pursuing a PhD in computer science, engineering, or a related field with a thesis aligned to Roblox’s research areas.
• Deep expertise in a relevant technical domain such as deep learning, computer vision, NLP, reinforcement learning, or distributed systems.
• Strong research track record with multiple publications in peer‑reviewed venues.
• Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, Go, Java) and experience building large‑scale systems.
