About the role
Job Duck is seeking a Criminal Appeals Legal Assistant to support a criminal appeals practice. The role involves managing case workflows, preparing legal documents, and ensuring deadlines are met in a fast‑paced, remote environment.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate case records and documentation.
- Track case progress, monitor deadlines, and follow up on pending items.
- Assist the Office Manager and Paralegal with daily legal operations.
- Organize legal files, correspondence, and prepare summaries and status reports.
- Communicate case updates to inmates' family members.
- File final documents and representation agreements through court systems using established templates.
Required profile
- 1‑2 years experience as a Legal Assistant or in a law‑firm environment.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work independently.
- Professional, client‑focused service approach with strong communication in English and Spanish.
Required skills
- Experience filing legal documents through court systems.
- Proficiency with legal document preparation using templates.
- Familiarity with Clio (preferred).
