Counselor / Psychotherapist for University Students

About the role

The Northeastern University Health and Counseling Services seeks a licensed Counselor/Psychotherapist to provide psychological counseling, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy to university students. The role includes outreach, collaboration with campus support services, and occasional health‑promotion activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical services: triage, assessment (in‑person and telehealth), individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, documentation, and referrals.
• Develop and deliver psycho‑educational programs and outreach to the university community.
• Participate in university, divisional, and UHCS committees and health‑promotion initiatives.
• Engage in training and supervision with behavioral health and medical staff.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
• Full state licensure as LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or Psychologist.
• Experience in urgent/crisis assessment, short‑term psychotherapy, and treatment of young adults with substance use, eating disorders, or ADHD.
• Proven ability to collaborate with health centers, academic staff, and community providers.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and experience in a diverse university setting.
