Correctional Officer Trainee – Centralia, Illinois

About the role

The Correctional Officer Trainee position provides a three‑month on‑the‑job training program in security and custodial duties for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Trainees will learn core correctional operations, complete pre‑service security training, and graduate with a certificate, badge, and oath of office.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in formalized security and custodial training at the IDOC Training Academy.
• Perform day‑to‑day correctional duties under supervision, including inmate supervision, facility security, and safety checks.
• Complete required physical fitness standards prior to and during training.

Required profile

• Must be physically fit to meet screening standards before arrival at the academy.
• Authorized to work full‑time in the United States.
• Ability to obtain a reasonable accommodation if needed, with appropriate documentation.
