Correctional Officer – Centralia, IL

About the role

The Department of Corrections is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Correctional Officers at the Centralia facility. Officers are responsible for maintaining safety, security, and order for individuals in custody while performing a range of custodial and supervisory duties during assigned shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain orderly conduct of visitors and individuals in custody, including serving as tower and patrol officer.
• Conduct routine perimeter patrols to detect contraband, unauthorized persons, and security breaches.
• Serve as a writ officer, certifying safety and security of individuals being escorted.
• Complete disciplinary and incident reports and enforce safety, sanitation, and custodial measures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (four years of high school education).
• Successful completion of an approved correctional officer training program.
• Ability to make decisions, give direction, and refer non‑routine matters to a superior officer.

Required skills

• Knowledge of security and custodial procedures within a correctional environment.
• Ability to conduct patrols, write reports, and enforce disciplinary policies.
