Cook II (On Call)

About the role

Live! by Loews in St. Louis, part of Ballpark Village, is hiring an on-call Cook II. The hotel supports 216 guestrooms, 17,000 square feet of event space and several dining venues, and the cook prepares and plates food for guests.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and organize the work area with all necessary supplies and equipment
• Receive, inspect and rotate food products so fresh, high-quality ingredients are used
• Prepare and store raw food properly, following standardized recipes and portion-control guidelines to minimize waste
• Plate cold foods and monitor finished product so it is served promptly, notifying the supervisor of delays
• Follow governmental food sanitation standards, check refrigeration and holding temperatures, and keep work surfaces clean and sanitized
• Use knives, slicers, mixers, choppers and grinders safely, and report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor
• Notify the steward of needed clean dishes and return cooking utensils to the pot wash area
• Clean and break down the work area, turn off equipment and secure the kitchen at the end of each shift
• Work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays, follow safety and hygiene procedures, and perform other duties as assigned

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Post-secondary culinary training or certification as "Cook" from a recognized culinary school
• One year of cooking experience in an upscale, high-volume hotel or freestanding restaurant, or equivalent
• Knowledge of food service sanitation standards and of standard kitchen equipment
• Able to stand, stoop, bend and lift up to 50 pounds
• English reading, writing and speaking ability
