Community Home Health Ombudsman – Lansing

About the role

The Michigan Elder Justice Initiative is hiring a full‑time Community Home Health Ombudsman to represent low‑income older adults and people with disabilities who prefer care at home rather than in nursing facilities. The role involves direct advocacy, case management, and collaboration with agencies and state officials to protect client rights.

Key responsibilities

• Manage an individual caseload, including client intake, phone/email assistance, and occasional in‑person meetings.
• Negotiate with agencies, attend advocacy meetings, and coordinate agendas with health plans.
• Maintain electronic case files and draft educational materials.
• Provide accurate information on program benefits and client rights.
• Conduct outreach, training, and communication to consumers, advocates, and the public.

Required profile

• College degree.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, problem‑solving, advocacy, and time‑management abilities.
• Capacity to work independently and a commitment to empowering vulnerable individuals.
• Understanding of the needs and concerns of older adults and people with disabilities.
• Experience advocating for vulnerable populations is preferred.

What we offer

• Starting salary of $53,000, dependent on experience.
