Staff Attorney – Lansing (Legal Services of South Central Michigan)

About the role

The Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) is looking for a Staff Attorney to join its Lansing office. The attorney will provide direct legal advocacy and impact work across housing law, consumer issues, public benefits, and family law for low‑income residents of Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee and Livingston counties.

Key responsibilities

• Represent clients in housing, consumer, public benefits, and family law matters.
• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and negotiate settlements.
• Provide individualized advocacy while contributing to systemic impact initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address homelessness prevention, domestic violence, elder abuse, and access to health care and income programs.

Required profile

• Licensed to practice law in Michigan, eligible for admission by waiver, or able to sit for the next Michigan bar exam.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving low‑income and underserved populations.
• Legal aid or litigation experience is a plus.
