Commercial Counsel – GTM

About the role

Canva is looking for a sharp, business‑minded lawyer to join its Commercial Legal team. You will be embedded with Go‑to‑Market (GTM) teams, reviewing and negotiating a high volume of commercial agreements across Enterprise, Public Sector, Higher Education, and strategic partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements with customers, vendors, and partners.
• Support contracting for government and public‑sector customers, handling procurement, regulatory, and specific contracting frameworks.
• Negotiate flow‑down terms with resellers and channel partners.
• Provide prompt legal answers to Sales, Finance, and other stakeholders.
• Stay current on laws, regulations, and industry standards such as data privacy and AI regulations.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and escalation guides, and deliver enablement training.
• Identify and implement improvements to contracting processes, workflows, and tools.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to deliver practical legal support.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts at a fast‑paced technology company.
• Experience with government and public‑sector SaaS transactions.
• Strong business sense and good judgement to assess and mitigate legal risk while keeping deals moving.
