Community Advocate, Housing Rights Program

About the role

The Asian Law Caucus seeks a Cantonese‑speaking Community Advocate to join its Housing Rights Program. The role blends direct client advocacy with community outreach and policy work, supporting low‑income and immigrant tenants facing displacement.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct client intakes, interviews, and case development, especially for Cantonese‑speaking tenants.
• Provide administrative and logistical support, including accompanying clients to appointments and offering brief legal advice under attorney supervision.
• Serve as the primary in‑language contact, delivering interpretation, translation, and Chinese‑language communication services.
• Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, conduct outreach on tenant rights, and help create educational materials.

Required profile

• Fluency in spoken and written Cantonese; ability to read and write Chinese.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
• Commitment to advancing the rights of low‑income, immigrant, and tenant communities.
• Strong research, analytical, written and oral communication, and organizational skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Google Suite.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

• Salary range $72,100 – $94,074 per year, with language premiums of $1,500 for oral and written proficiency.
