About the role
The Department of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Clinic Athletic Trainer 3 to provide direct patient care in its Coral Gables clinic. Working under the supervision of an attending surgeon, the trainer will evaluate and treat musculoskeletal injuries and support postoperative recovery.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health histories and physical assessments for acute, chronic, or potential injuries.
- Perform range‑of‑motion, strength, neurovascular, sensation, palpation, special, ligamentous, and functional testing.
- Document findings, present cases to physicians, and enter standing orders for imaging, therapy, braces, labs, and referrals.
- Fit patients with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other orthopedic appliances and provide education on proper use.
- Provide wound care, gait training, casting application and removal, suture removal, and dressing changes.
- Assist surgeons with injection preparation, consent documentation, and supply setup.
- Complete surgical booking sheets and act as liaison among patient, surgeon, and surgical coordinator.
- Communicate patient status and updates to staff and providers, documenting all interactions in the electronic medical record.
Required profile
- Licensed Athletic Trainer with clinical evaluation and educational expertise.
- Experience working in a physician‑directed orthopedic or sports‑medicine setting.
- Ability to provide patient‑centered care under supervision of an attending surgeon.
- Strong organizational skills for documentation, order entry, and coordination of care.
