Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist – Emergency Services

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Akron General is seeking a Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to provide advanced clinical expertise, leadership, and education for the Emergency Medicine team across multiple sites, including a Level I Trauma Center.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical expert and resource for nursing staff within emergency departments.
• Promote and implement evidence‑based practice to improve patient outcomes.
• Lead quality‑improvement, patient‑safety, and performance‑improvement projects.
• Provide education, mentorship, and professional development for nursing staff.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize care delivery.
• Support development and evaluation of clinical policies, procedures, and best practices.

Required profile

• Strong clinical expertise in an emergency medicine setting.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Passion for improving nursing practice, patient outcomes, and staff development.
• Ability to work across multiple sites while fostering strong relationships.

Required skills

• Current RN license and CNS certification in the applicable state(s).
• National certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as required by the work setting.
