Billing Specialist I (Full-Time)

About the role

The Billing Specialist I supports the hospital’s revenue cycle by processing insurance claims, handling patient account inquiries, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. This full‑time position reports to the Billing Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Enter patient and insurance information for claim submission and verify completeness.
• Submit claims electronically or via paper UB04 and CMS‑1500 forms to clearinghouses or insurers.
• Respond to patient questions about balances, copays, deductibles, and write‑offs.
• Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims, resolve issues, and resubmit as needed.
• Prepare appeal letters for denied claims and gather supporting documentation.
• Perform soft collections for past‑due patient accounts.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Medical billing experience preferred.
• Ability to follow HIPAA guidelines and handle confidential information.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach and lift items up to 10 lb.

Required skills

• Proficiency with billing software.
• Experience with electronic data submission of claims.
• Knowledge of UB04 and CMS‑1500 claim forms.
