Associate Executive Director – AI & Data-Intensive Computing

About the role

The Associate Executive Director will lead AI and data‑intensive computing initiatives at Texas A&M University’s High Performance Research Computing (HPRC) center. Reporting to the HPRC Executive Director, this senior leader will shape strategy, drive adoption of advanced AI technologies, and enhance the university’s research capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a comprehensive AI and data science roadmap aligned with university priorities.
• Lead and mentor the AI development team, delivering scalable solutions and custom AI agents for campus needs.
• Establish Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) practices, overseeing model monitoring, tuning, and production management.
• Develop AI literacy training and promote AI integration across academic units and research projects.
• Advise the Executive Director on fiscal, personnel, and technical matters.
• Represent HPRC at regional and national events, building partnerships and influencing policy.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in AI, machine learning, or high‑performance computing environments.
• Strong record of cross‑campus collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering impactful research‑focused technology solutions.
