Assistant Professor – Animal Science (Veterinarian)

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks an Assistant Professor in Animal Science with a veterinary background. This twelve‑month, tenure‑track position begins in spring 2026 and balances research, extension, and teaching responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct animal‑science research (40% effort) and support faculty research protocols.
• Provide extension services related to livestock management and veterinary practice (35% effort).
• Teach undergraduate labs, pre‑veterinary courses, and contribute to new veterinary school programs (25% effort).
• Ensure compliance with IACUC, USDA, and AAALAC guidelines, including protocol review and facility inspections.
• Supervise and mentor veterinary technicians, research staff, and students.

Required profile

• Veterinary degree (DVM) with relevant academic credentials.
• Experience in animal‑science research, extension outreach, and higher‑education teaching.
• Demonstrated ability to manage livestock resources and maintain regulatory compliance.
• Strong mentorship and supervisory skills.
