Assistant Nurse Manager – Progressive Coronary Care Unit

About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in the Progressive Coronary Care Unit (PK II) at Fairview Hospital, a Magnet‑recognized facility. The role focuses on patient assessment, unit policy improvement, staff scheduling, and onboarding new nurses while delivering high‑quality cardiac care.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Nurse Manager in supervising RNs and support staff, including admissions and patient assessments.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing programs, policies, and unit procedures.
• Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and act as liaison between management and caregivers.
• Participate in quality‑improvement projects, outcomes studies, and research initiatives.
• Orient and mentor new caregivers and support continuing education.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and current RN licensure.
• Two years of recent clinical nursing experience, preferably in critical‑care or telemetry.
• Strong clinical knowledge of cardiothoracic surgery, dysrhythmia management, and heart‑failure care.
• Ability to work evening/night rotations and handle physical demands of the unit.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (required for critical‑care areas).
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and cardiac patient care.
