Assistant Nurse Manager – Med/Surg

About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager on a 12:00pm‑10:30pm variable shift in the 6100 Medical/Surgical Unit at Union Hospital, providing clinical supervision, unit coordination, and leadership development while delivering high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direction and support to unit staff, supervise admissions, assess patient needs, and initiate nursing care plans.
• Evaluate and document patient progress, and prepare work schedules ensuring adequate coverage.
• Facilitate planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives, and objectives.
• Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for efficient service delivery.
• Serve as liaison between manager, staff, and other organizational areas, resolving issues affecting patient care.
• Participate in quality‑improvement projects, outcomes studies, research initiatives, and departmental committees.
• Support orientation of new personnel, continuing education, and in‑service educational programs.

Required profile

• Graduated from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Current RN licensure in Ohio and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum two years of recent clinical nursing experience, preferably on a med/surg unit.
• Strong clinical knowledge, analytical, organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
• UKG/timekeeping system experience.
• NIH Stroke certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
