Area Coordinator - Residence Life

About the role

John Carroll University is hiring a full-time, 12-month, live-on Area Coordinator in its Office of Residence Life. Reporting to the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Area Coordinator leads a residential community of about 550 students in 1-2 residence halls and supports initiatives such as Living-Learning Communities, RA Training and Development and Marketing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the residential community, focusing on student engagement and relationship building.
• Supervise, develop and evaluate 8-15 Resident Assistants, including 1-2 Senior RAs.
• Oversee programming initiatives in the area and mediate elevated resident conflicts.
• Hear student conduct cases and support students of concern and at-risk students with campus partners.
• Advise the area-wide student leadership organization and serve in the on-call duty rotation for after-hours safety.
• Manage budget lines for community building, programming and staff development.
• Support housing operations (hall opening/closing, occupancy, access control, facilities and housekeeping follow-up).
• Take on summer projects such as summer housing, camps and conference support, and help with RA recruitment, selection and training.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's strongly preferred.
• Previous residence life or housing experience.
• Previous student staff supervision experience.
• Knowledge of student development, student leadership and community development theories.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends when needed.

Required skills

• Strong oral and written communication and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work in an office setting and travel between office locations.

• Starting salary of $39,000-$43,000, commensurate with qualifications.
