Aquatics Director

About the role

The Aquatics Director leads all aspects of the Aquatics Department at the Parkway YMCA, reporting to the Branch Director of Operations. This full‑time position ensures high‑quality, safe aquatic programs for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and oversee a wide range of aquatic programs, including lifeguarding, lessons for all ages, family swim, rentals, pool parties and competitive swim.
• Maintain pool health and safety standards: water quality, temperature, chemical balance, testing and backwashing, and secure facilities when not in use.
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate paid and volunteer instructors and lifeguards, ensuring certifications are current.
• Participate in Association Aquatics Team meetings and follow all quality and safety guidelines.
• Prepare payroll reports, monitor registrations, maintain records and support emergency preparedness training.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least 21 years old with YMCA Lifeguarding certification (or Red Cross certification convertible within six months).
• Minimum two years of experience managing diverse aquatics programs, pool maintenance and staff supervision.
• Strong member‑service and staff‑relation skills.

Required skills

• YMCA Lifeguarding certification.
• CPR, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certification.
• Pool chemical testing and water quality management.
