AI Engineer – Backend Systems

About the role

Taste Labs is building the data and infrastructure layer for "taste" – the subjective judgment that makes AI feel right. As an AI Engineer (Back‑end) you will create the core systems that power our taste agents, from memory loops to evaluation pipelines and large‑scale retrieval infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement agent harnesses, memory structures, and self‑improvement loops.
• Build evaluation pipelines and generate synthetic data for model training.
• Develop embedding and retrieval infrastructure capable of handling millions of requests.
• Create crawling and scraping systems to collect visual data from the web.
• Set up inference serving and APIs for client‑facing products.
• Conduct security sweeps, vulnerability mapping, and ensure robust protection.
• Maintain tooling and infrastructure that keep the platform reliable and fast.

Required profile

• Deeply technical mindset with strong opinions on code quality and an anti‑slop approach.
• Creative curiosity about subjective domains and how to make them verifiable.
• Startup DNA: fast‑moving, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguous, hard problems.
• Hands‑on experience building AI‑forward products, systems, agents, or models.
