Advanced Practice Provider (NP, PA, CNS) – Rapid Observation Unit III PRN

About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will join the Rapid Observation Unit at Akron General Medical Center, delivering high‑quality care to patients needing observation‑level management of acute medical conditions. This PRN position works 12‑hour shifts, both day and night, covering 1‑2 shifts per month.

Key responsibilities

• Independently evaluate, diagnose, treat, and reassess patients throughout their stay.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, perform credentialed procedures, and prescribe medications as allowed.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, consultants, and ED/inpatient teams to ensure efficient patient throughput and safe transitions of care.
• Participate in medical team rounds, discharge planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Educate patients on disease processes, treatments, and medication side effects.

Required profile

• Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider (NP, PA, or CNS) with current state licensure.
• Graduate of an accredited APRN or Physician Assistant program; MSN required for APRNs.
• Basic Life Support certification required; ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on setting.
• Credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and hospital governing body.

Required skills

• Ability to conduct comprehensive histories, physical exams, and develop treatment plans.
• Proficiency in ordering, performing, and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and cardiographic studies.
• Competence in performing routine and specialized procedures within credentialing scope.
• Prescribing and medication management according to state and institutional policies.
