Accountant

About the role

The Accountant will apply solid accounting principles and financial reporting expertise while supporting the church’s financial integrity and serving staff and congregants with a teachable spirit.

Key responsibilities

• Record entries, review accounts for discrepancies, and prepare adjusting journal entries.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities and prepare related financial reports.
• Develop and analyze budgets, compare actual costs to budgeted amounts, and provide recommendations for workflow improvements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and assist in updating accounting policies and procedures.
• Analyze business operations, trends, and financial commitments to aid decision‑making.
• Maintain and document record‑keeping systems using current computer technology.
• Resolve congregant questions regarding contributions and support auditor requests.

Required profile

• Minimum age 18 (21 preferred); Bachelor of Science in Accounting required, CPA preferred.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite and knowledgeable in QuickBooks Online.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, problem‑solving abilities; detail‑oriented and organized.
• Patient, maintains confidentiality, teachable spirit, and completes tasks timely.
