Accountant I – Accounts Payable

About the role

We are looking for an Accountant I focused on Accounts Payable to join Fifth Third Bank. The role involves maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing entries, and supporting month‑end close activities within a banking environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update all assigned accounting records, including daily entries and account balances.
• Prepare and monitor daily journal entries, reconcile complex accounts, and resolve outages.
• Coordinate month‑end accounting activities with other departments, lines of business and affiliates.
• Ensure compliance with Bancorp accounting policies and GAAP, and produce timely financial statements and reports.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and assist with integration of new accounting systems.
• Respond to inquiries from management, auditors and external parties regarding accounting issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• Working knowledge of GAAP; pursuing CPA, CMA or related certification is a plus.
• Experience in financial industry or public accounting preferred.
• Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills.
