Wildland Firefighter / Ranger – Bleckley, Pulaski & Dodge Counties

About the role

The Georgia Forestry Commission is seeking motivated individuals to join its elite Wildland Firefighter/Ranger team serving Bleckley, Pulaski, and Dodge counties. This position involves protecting forest resources, responding to wildland fire incidents, and supporting fire prevention initiatives across a diverse landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to and suppress wildland fire incidents in a timely and safe manner.
• Conduct fire prevention, education, and outreach activities within the assigned counties.
• Operate fire‑fighting equipment, vehicles, and tools in rugged terrain and challenging weather conditions.
• Maintain readiness through regular training, equipment checks, and physical fitness assessments.
• Collaborate with other fire‑fighting agencies and emergency responders during multi‑agency incidents.

Required profile

• Must possess a Class A CDL learner’s permit before hire and obtain a full CDL within 12 weeks.
• Successful completion of background investigation, medical evaluation, and physical fitness testing.
• Ability to pass the Moderate Work Capacity Test (2‑mile hike with 25‑lb pack) and annual Physical Agility Test.
• Willingness to live or relocate within 45 minutes of the Cochran work site.
• Strong commitment to public service and teamwork in high‑adrenaline environments.
