VP of Engineering

About the role

Cambium is an AI‑powered platform modernizing the wood economy. As VP of Engineering you will own the engineering organization behind a data‑heavy product that helps wood buyers and suppliers make better decisions and build better physical products.

Key responsibilities

• Champion engineering across the company, bridging business needs and technical reality.
• Partner with the CEO and Senior Director of Product to align execution with product strategy.
• Build, mentor and scale the engineering team, defining hiring, career ladders and performance processes.
• Establish processes, team structure and capacity planning to enable predictable shipping.
• Own the engineering budget, technology strategy and build‑vs‑buy decisions, including vendor selection and AI tooling impact.
• Define and govern the data strategy across systems of record such as NetSuite, Hubspot and the custom platform.

Required profile

• 15+ years leading engineering teams at Series B or growth‑stage companies.
• Proven track record of hiring, mentoring and creating cultures of ownership.
• Deep technical background with experience designing complex logistics, fintech or customer‑facing platforms.
• Hands‑on ability to stress‑test architectures, resolve data consistency challenges and make strategic build‑vs‑buy calls.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous environments while maintaining momentum.

Required skills

• AI/ML tooling evaluation and integration.
• Data integration and consistency across multiple databases (e.g., NetSuite, Hubspot).
• Complex system architecture and cloud infrastructure design.
