Respiratory Therapist – PRN (Days or Nights)

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. This PRN position can be scheduled for days or nights, offering flexibility while delivering essential respiratory therapies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures, including oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
• Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
• Deliver intermittent therapy and assist with changing artificial airways.
• Review and document all clinical information for each patient.
• Educate patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans.
• Adapt communication style to respect patient privacy and specific population needs.

Required profile

• Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (Bachelor’s preferred).
• Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data entry.
