Principal Scientist – Multiscale Separations Team Lead

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Scientist to lead our Multiscale Separations team within the Separations Sciences group, located in Rahway, New Jersey. The role provides scientific leadership and operational oversight for purification and analytical chromatography supporting diverse drug development programs.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the subject‑matter expert in HPLC, SFC, and related chromatographic technologies, guiding purification and analytical activities across multiple therapeutic modalities.
• Partner with digital technology teams to implement automation, laboratory informatics, and digital workflows that enhance separation science capabilities.
• Mentor and develop scientists and laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative, high‑performing environment.
• Collaborate with Process Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analytical Sciences, IT, and external vendors to support project progression and capability development.
• Lead laboratory operations, instrumentation strategy, capital planning, and ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related field with at least 8 years of industrial experience (or M.S. with 10‑12 years).
• Extensive hands‑on experience in chromatographic purification and analytical separations supporting drug development, including HPLC, uHPLC, LC‑MS, SFC, and preparative chromatography.
• Proven ability to lead scientific teams, influence technical direction, and deliver results in a laboratory environment.
