About the role

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides basic patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse on the MedSurg unit at St. Bernard Parish Hospital. This PRN night‑shift position supports patient safety, observation, and comfort.

Key responsibilities

Observe patients continuously, report changes in behavior or status to nursing staff, and intervene to maintain safety.
Perform delegated nursing tasks, maintain a clean and safe patient care area, and document all patient‑related activities.

Required profile

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 3 months of personal care experience in a home, nursing home, skilled nursing, or hospital setting.

Required skills

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire).
Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire).
Proficiency with Windows‑style applications, data entry, and computer‑based documentation.
