Member of Technical Staff, Billing

About the role

Comfy is building an AI workflow platform where every run incurs a cost. The Billing team ensures customers understand their spending and that the company charges accurately as models, prices, and products evolve. You will own the engineering that powers usage metering, payment processing, credit management, and protection against financial abuse.

Key responsibilities

• Capture usage reliably for GPU compute and partner model APIs, handling delayed events, retries, and partial failures.
• Own the payment lifecycle, improving checkout, subscriptions, credit top‑ups, plan changes, prorations, refunds, and failed‑payment recovery while keeping Stripe and internal state consistent.
• Reconcile charges, payments, and credits with automated checks, audit trails, and safe recovery mechanisms.
• Build reusable pricing and entitlement systems to enable new pricing models for creators, teams, and enterprises.
• Limit financial abuse by enhancing spend controls, detecting suspicious usage, and working with Support and Finance on disputes.
• Provide clear billing answers to customers and internal teams, partnering with product and frontend engineers to improve billing experiences.

Required profile

• Experience building and operating billing or payments systems in production, with ownership of usage metering or consumption‑based pricing.
• Hands‑on integration with Stripe, handling subscription changes, invoices, webhooks, and payment failures.
• Strong reasoning about money in distributed systems: idempotency, concurrency, reconciliation, rounding, and partial‑failure recovery.
• Proven backend engineering skills, especially with relational data modeling and reliable APIs.
• Ability to explain technical trade‑offs to Finance, Product, and Support and incorporate their feedback.
• Ownership from problem definition through rollout and operation, using AI development tools responsibly.
