Medical Assistant - General Surgery & Float

About the role

This position provides individualized medical care to assigned patients in person, electronically, and via telephone under the supervision of a licensed health care provider. The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of health care services to diverse patients, maintains positive relationships with patients and families, and ensures efficient patient flow throughout the visit.

Key responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit.
• Answers patient questions before discharge and prepares the exam room for the next appointment.
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person.
• Completes appropriate documentation, including patient registration when necessary.
• Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials through professional development.
• Handles other duties as assigned efficiently.
• Complies with Department of Transportation workplace drug and alcohol testing procedures when applicable.
• Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and tailoring explanations.
• Ensures compliance with all policies and standards.

Required profile

• Clinical knowledge.
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to individuals at varying levels of the patient care process.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
