Livestock & Poultry Field Inspector – Agriculture Inspector 1

About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a Livestock & Poultry Field Inspector (Agriculture Inspector 1) to support the Livestock and Poultry Program. The position involves field inspections, disease monitoring, sample collection, and emergency response across designated counties in Georgia.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspections at livestock markets, farms, flea markets and other animal gathering sites.
• Identify clinical signs of disease, ensure containment, and enforce regulatory compliance.
• Respond to animal health complaints and emergencies.
• Collect and submit samples from cattle, swine, sheep, goats and poultry for laboratory analysis.
• Issue quarantine permits, prepare reports and maintain accurate field records.
• Monitor animal exhibitions for disease detection and provide education to producers.

Required profile

• Residency in or willingness to relocate to Augusta, Crawfordville, Evans, Gibson or Lexington counties.
• Completion of USDA Livestock Grading certification within the first six months of employment.
• Ability to work shift schedules; off‑days may not follow a traditional weekend pattern.
• Comfort with extended outdoor exposure and physical demands of field work.

Required skills

• USDA Livestock Grading certification (or ability to obtain within six months).
