Lead Java Engineer, Game Tools (Minecraft)

About the role

CatFace is looking for a Lead Java Engineer to own and evolve the internal Minecraft mod ecosystem that powers its popular YouTube channels. You will work directly with production teams to turn creative ideas into reliable, reusable tools.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and maintain CatFace's internal mod platform, establishing shared frameworks and conventions.
• Design and build new Java (NeoForge) tools and mods that enable production concepts.
• Refactor, retire, and test code to ensure reliability for scheduled recording days.
• Define technical standards, documentation, and code‑base health for future engineers.
• Lead AI‑assisted development practice, keeping tooling current and establishing best practices.
• Translate non‑technical production requests into clear technical plans and manage scope, milestones, and timelines.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in Java, C#, C++ or similar OO languages.
• Proven ownership of end‑to‑end systems with durable architecture.
• Fluency with AI‑assisted development tools such as Claude Code.
• Strong knowledge of Minecraft mechanics and modding concepts.
• Excellent communication skills for working with non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work onsite in Austin and legal authorization to work in the US without sponsorship.
