Heavy Equipment Operator

About the role

Join Black & McDonald’s Salt Lake City team as a Heavy Equipment Operator, operating and maintaining a variety of heavy machinery on construction and utility projects.

Key responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, graders, skid steers, dump trucks and specialized utility tools.
• Perform trenching, shoring, grading, and road, bridge, culvert, flood channel and utility installations.
• Assist with installing or repairing sanitary sewer, storm drain and water lines, confirming utility locations before excavation.
• Inspect equipment daily, conduct routine maintenance and follow OSHA and company safety rules.
• Load trucks with materials, rock and dirt and transport equipment and materials to project sites.
• Operate specialized tools like asphalt rollers, chip boxes and vacuum trucks as needed.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of construction‑related experience preferred.
• Valid Class A CDL driver’s license with a clean record.
• Willingness to work overtime and pass drug screening and motor vehicle background check.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively with co‑workers, teams and clients.
• Physical ability to lift, climb, walk and stand for extended periods.

Required skills

• Experience operating excavators, loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, graders, skid steers and dump trucks.
• Familiarity with asphalt rollers, chip boxes and vacuum trucks.
• Class A CDL license.
