General Mechanic – Overnight – Full Time

About the role

The General Mechanic provides overnight maintenance support for St. Charles Parish Hospital, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems operate safely and efficiently. This full‑time position works the 11:00 pm – 7:30 am shift and responds to both routine and emergency service requests.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing items throughout the hospital and clinic settings.
• Maintain specialty systems such as nurse‑call, fire alarm, medical‑gas, television, and ceiling systems.
• Complete preventive‑maintenance inspections according to scheduled checkpoints and document all work performed.
• Assist other departments with daily maintenance, emergency on‑call duties, and disaster‑response tasks.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or company school preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in commercial, industrial, or hospital maintenance, or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program.
• Valid driver’s license in the state of residence.
• Ability to work independently, handle physical and mental stress, and respond to emergencies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC‑R, and carpentry trades.
• Experience reading blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities for electro‑mechanical systems.
