Field Surveyor / Field Engineer

About the role

The company is seeking an experienced Field Surveyor / Field Engineer to support federal civil construction projects across multiple locations. The role involves precise field layout, construction staking, survey control, as‑built documentation, and support of GPS and machine‑control operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform field layout and construction staking for earthwork, utilities, structures, roads, drainage, concrete and other civil activities.
• Establish, maintain and verify horizontal and vertical project control using total stations, robotic total stations, builder's levels, rotary lasers and GPS/GNSS equipment.
• Support, configure and troubleshoot earthwork machine‑control systems and manage import/export of technical project data.
• Conduct pre‑construction, construction and detailed as‑built surveys, identify discrepancies and communicate issues to project management.
• Maintain accurate field notes, equipment logs and assist the Survey Department with equipment tracking and quality‑control checks.

Required profile

• 5+ years hands‑on land surveying experience, including construction surveying and civil construction layout.
• Valid driver’s license, ability to travel extensively and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, self‑driven and able to work independently.
• Experience on federal or government civil construction projects is preferred.

Required skills

• Total stations, robotic total stations, builder's levels, rotary lasers.
• GPS/GNSS base and rover systems.
• Trimble Siteworks, Trimble Business Center, Trimble total stations and machine‑control technology.
• Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam Revu, electronic filing systems such as Box.
