Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

About the role

The Senior Estimator leads the estimating process for heavy civil construction projects, including earthwork, grading, site development, and underground utilities. This full‑time, on‑site role manages the bid lifecycle from pre‑qualification through proposal development and turnover to operations.

Key responsibilities

• Train, develop, and mentor a small team of estimators through take‑offs to final proposal submission.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for large‑scale civil infrastructure projects.
• Perform quantity take‑offs using plans and specifications.
• Develop complete bid packages, work plans, and construction sequencing strategies.
• Solicit, evaluate, and maintain subcontractor and vendor quotes and databases.
• Attend site visits, pre‑bid meetings, and client walkthroughs.
• Prepare estimate summaries, bid tabs, and proposal documents.
• Assist in schedule development and support project turnover after award.

Required profile

• 8+ years of heavy civil estimating experience (required).
• Experience estimating mass earthwork, grading, site development, and underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain).
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license, U.S. citizenship, and ability to pass background and drug screenings.

Required skills

• Proficiency with estimating software: HeavyBid, PlanSwift, AGTEK, Primavera P6, AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of construction means and methods.
• Ability to build project estimates from conceptual stage through final bid.
