FabVantage Defect Technologist

About the role

The FabVantage Defect Technologist will lead defect data collection, analysis, and troubleshooting for Applied Materials' semiconductor and display equipment. You will work with cross‑functional teams to build knowledge bases, develop training content, and drive defect reduction across both legacy and new‑product tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design DefectRx data‑collection plans and failure‑analysis strategies with subject‑matter experts.
• Validate field data, verify auto‑classification, and source defect causes using the DefectExpert System.
• Develop troubleshooting trees, capture defect incidents, and maintain knowledge bases for multiple equipment types.
• Create case studies, technical bulletins, and training materials to support field deployment of the Defect Expert System.
• Participate in defect community workshops, seminars, and cross‑organizational learning forums.

Required profile

• Experience in semiconductor manufacturing equipment (dielectric deposition, etch, or metal deposition).
• Background in defect troubleshooting, hardware or process engineering, and familiarity with memory or logic fabs.
• Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work across multiple projects and teams.

Required skills

• SEM/FIB/TEM/AFM, EDX/XPS/Auger, XRD/XRF/Raman/FTIR, RGA/OES instrumentation.
• Defect data analysis, knowledge‑base management, and defect‑expert system (DES) usage.
• Understanding of particulate mechanics, plasma and vacuum technology.
